The Hudson Milliner was born of our desire to bring history and character back to a neglected building and share this beautiful space with others.

In 2010, Shannon and Charlotta, two artists from Brooklyn, fell in love with a former hat shop and office building in Hudson and set out to create the upstate home of their dreams. As they began to rip out decades of uninspired renovations and reclaim the hidden glory of the three-story 19th-century building, another dream took shape: To turn this architectural gem into a boutique guest house that others could enjoy.

The Hudson Milliner began taking guests in the fall of 2013 and since then countless friends, friends of friends, faraway travelers, New Yorkers on getaways, and even the occasional A-list celebrity have enjoyed the abundant light, space, comfort, and eclectic charm of the headwear-themed suites.

We designed the Hudson Milliner for ourselves and wanted every nook and cranny of the space to tell a unique story.

We built every fixture and restored each original detail, scoured local antique stores, and meticulously refurbished vintage appliances to create a space that feels like home, but better. Each suite has its own vibe and personality while being part of the Hudson Milliner story as a whole.

The building’s salvaged features include original mahogany pocket doors with etched glass windows that were hidden behind walls.

Little by little, we uncovered hidden architectural details and brought them back with love and elbow grease.

We love to connect Hudson’s past and present by finding objects in local antique markets and bringing them back to life, such as this 1930s radio.

All the floor tile mosaics were designed by Charlotta who also laid them by hand. Each unit has a unique pattern.

The hardware from the original pocket doors in the Bowler Suite was so beautiful that we decided to expose it and turn them barn doors.

We created all shelving from plumbing pipes and repurposed wood that we recovered during the renovation.

This restored 1940s Chambers Model B stove has fired up many fabulous dinners for eight in the Bowler suite’s kitchen.

The luxuriously spacious bathrooms feature vintage touches like customized hooks and refurbished clawfoot tubs.

About Hudson

A former whaling town turned sin city with gambling halls and brothels that flourished well into the 20th century, Hudson’s colorful history informs its dynamic present. Today, this riverside community is a haven for artists and creative ex-urbanites who have revived its diverse architectural gems in the form of antique stores, art galleries, music venues, and restaurants. We have selected some of our current favorites.
